On April
15, 2004, EPA announced that there were 474 counties that were
identified as nonattainment for the 8-hour standard. On June
2, 2008, the EPA announced that the number of nonattainment counties
was reduced to 293. At least one of the areas that became attainment
violated the 8-hour ozone standard for the period 2004-2006.
Additonal areas appear to have violated the 8-hour standard for
the period 2005-2007. Maps are available
to inspect the current nonattainment areas.
